CASE STUDY

TASK

NEW HIRES:

HR Director, Mergers + Acquisitions

HR Business Partner, Talent + Development

CHALLENGE

American Express was looking to build out their HR team. We needed to make two key hires:

  • An HR Director to work with global HR partners and will lead the people plan for the Consumer Services Organization, including performance management, talent assessment, career pathing/development, and employee engagement.
  • An HR Director, M&A will run day to day activities on M&A transactions. They will develop initial plans and strategy including HR Due Diligence on Acquisitions, HR Structuring and Preparation for Dispositions based upon the structure and timing of the proposed transaction.

ACTION

We worked with the hiring teams to set the ideal experience and profiles to target for each role.

While each role had their nuances we were able to present a short list of 3-4 candidates that fit our ideal targets for each role. The interview processes took a bit longer than initially anticipated but we were able to keep the interest and excitement of the finalists who were most aligned culturally and with the challenges of the roles.

RESULT

The first hire we made was the Talent + Development HR Director for the Consumer Services Organization. While this role was a replacement hire it was in major need of a reboot to uplevel the assessment and career development strategies that the teams would employ to help elevate their teams while providing a long-term career track that also loosely resembled the progression of the startup community (where they were competing for talent). Then the M&A HR Director was hired, this person had strong M&A experience assembling the appropriate HR teams (internally + externally) from various functions to help develop an effective strategy and highly nuanced plan of attack for each M&A deal.
